Why Kirk Franklin

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM JUBILEE GENERATION MINISTRY
For 27 years, Jubilee Generation has served as a Catholic music ministry committed to worship, evangelization, and the transformative power of God’s mercy. Throughout this journey, the music and ministry of Kirk Franklin have inspired many of us—across denominations, cultures, and generations—to praise God more freely and to trust Him more deeply. |
When we first felt the call to bring Kirk Franklin back to Trinidad, our response was one of obedience. As time passed, and through prayer, discernment, and honest dialogue, we came to recognize that God was also inviting us into something deeper: a necessary and timely conversation within the Church and among His people—one rooted in redemption, forgiveness, accountability, and grace.
It is in this spirit of openness and maturity in faith that we address the concerns raised.
Some have pointed to Mr. Franklin’s 2022 BET Awards performance, particularly the line, “the lion and the lamb will bow down to the goat.” Mr. Franklin has since explained that this was an instance of artistic hyperbole, not theology. Was that artistic choice wise? That is a fair and valid question. However, we believe the conversation cannot—and must not—end there.
An equally important question must also be asked: Does this moment define his faith, his heart, or his posture toward God? For us, the answer became clear through prayer and discernment—through the very call we believe God placed on our hearts to bring him here. We therefore encourage every individual to take this matter to God personally, in prayer, and to discern with sincerity and humility.
What we can say with confidence is this: Kirk Franklin has lived a profoundly human life—one that has unfolded very publicly, under intense scrutiny. Like all of us, he has stumbled. Unlike many, he has openly taken responsibility, apologized publicly, and spoken honestly about his struggles as a man, husband, father, and minister. Through it all, he has consistently professed his love for God, his commitment to serving God’s people, and his desire to remain an instrument in the Lord’s hands.

There is another truth about us that we believe must be shared.
For more than a decade, Jubilee Generation Music Ministry has ministered within the prison system. We have prayed with, sung with, and walked alongside men and women who carry the weight of very serious crimes—contract killings, rape, paedophilia, murder, drug trafficking, and more. To minister in these spaces, we have had to surrender our personal judgments and be governed instead by God’s mercy. |
In those places, we have witnessed firsthand a powerful truth: no one is beyond the reach of grace, and redemption is not an abstract idea—it is lived, often painfully and slowly, in real time.
If we, as Christians, are called to minister to those in prison—those whom society has written off but whom God still calls His own—then we must also ask ourselves: Who are we to withhold that same grace from any brother or sister in Christ?
Love with accountability? Yes, absolutely.
Judgment and condemnation? No—for that belongs to God alone.
We therefore invite our JubileeTT family and the wider Christian community to join us in prayer:
* Pray for Kirk Franklin, and for all who carry the heavy responsibility of public ministry and service.
* Pray for Jubilee Generation, that we remain faithful to God’s mandate—not our own preferences or fears.
* And pray for all of us, that we may grow in wisdom and discernment, knowledge and understanding, compassion, and unity as we continue the work God has entrusted to us.
May forgiveness guide us.
May mercy shape us.
And may Christ remain at the center of all that we do.
Be blessed,
Jubilee Generation Music Ministry / Jubilee TT
